Summer Workshop 2012

Next summer's workshop will be held in Edinburgh, in the lovely facilities of the Edinburgh Montessori Arts School (EMAS). The workshop will run from Monday 23 July to Friday 3 August, with practical exams on Saturday 4 August. Students taking written exams will take their first paper on the morning of 4 August, and their second paper on the morning of Sunday 5 August, so please take this into account when making travel plans.

Students generally find the workshop a very intense and wholly absorbing experience, and more than one student over the years has announced, 'This has changed my life!' so if you have not yet completed the practical component of your course, aim to join us in Edinburgh. It doesn't matter how far you have progressed with your units and segments because all students attending the workshop take the practical exam, but if you are getting close to the end, an extra spurt of energy before the workshop will qualify you to sit the written exams at the same time, which makes everything easier, and more economical.

And so that you can budget for the cost: the fee for the 2012 workshop is the same as in 2011: £1055.00; the exam fee, practical and written together, is £305.00, but if you're only taking the practical the fee will be £152.50.

Launch of Grammar Workbook

'Where's the Verb?'

Grammar always poses problems for Montessori students because the majority of people have had no effective grammar teaching in school.

'Where's the Verb?' is a new grammar workbook written by Helen Prochazka designed to help anyone who feels hazy about this important area of the Montessori curriculum. It presents those aspects of English grammar you need to know, broadly in the order of progression in which you will introduce them to the children, and accompanied by careful explanations and lots of exercises for you to work through and practise to help you feel more confident. workbook coverBut although it does outline in broad terms how the Montessori approach to grammar is delivered to the children it is not a file of grammatical presentations for the children. It is an indispensible tool for teachers and students to improve their own knowledge, and is now available as a PDF file to download, price £15.99.

Montessori and Islamic home/flexischooling

The Montessori Partnership is  running an innovative new training programme in partnership with Manara Education in Leicester to enable a committed group of Muslim home educators to flexischool their children in a holistic way that combines Islamic values with the Montessori approach.

Demonstration of early practical life exercises

The course is an introduction to Montessori primary education, starting with the early years, but with a strong focus on the principles and practice underpinning work with primary aged children. It is running over 5 weekends between November and April. The two sessions which have already taken place have seen stimulating exchanges of ideas and thoughtful reflection on the needs of children at different stages of their development and how best to meet them within the context of Islamic tradition, culture and ethos. Everyone involved is looking forward to the next session and beyond.
