Helen Lerebours is a tutor and trainer at the Montessori Partnership. She will be your guide through the fascinating world of Montessori. Helen is a highly qualified, experienced and passionate trainer. The workshops cover all of the practical elements of the Montessori curriculum. If you are a parent wanting more insight into how your child learns and how to support them or a practitioner who needs to brush up their skills then these workshops are for you! Our workshop cycles take place over 5 weekends and while they are stand alone, they also form part of the Montessori Partnership Montessori Diplomas at Level 3 and Level 4. If you wanted to take the course in the future, any workshop costs will be deducted from your fees.

Tea and coffee are provided but you will need to provide your own lunch. Please bring indoor slippers or warm socks.

Practical Life

The Practical Life Workshop is the first area in the Montessori curriculum .

In this workshop you will learn:

– How to present the Montessori materials to the children.

– How to develop a child’s independence and caring for their own environment (and reduce those tantrums!).

– Preparation for writing, reading and maths.

– Teaching the child to be able to concentrate, how to be quiet, how to develop self-discipline.

– The child is like a sponge and is primed from birth to learn without effort until the age of about 6. Learn how to take advantage of this.

– Students will learn how to make their own PL exercises .

Sensorial

The Sensorial area is the second part of the Montessori curriculum and teaches the child how to make use of and refine their senses.

In this workshop you will learn:

n

– How to present the Montessori materials to the children.

n

– How to teach a child abstract concepts such as what is “long”? 

n

– How to encourage the child to use the senses to compare shapes and sizes.

n

– Teach how to compare, contrast and categorise shapes and sizes physically and visually without verbally explaining it.

n

– How to teach the names of all of the shapes.

In this fourth workshop you will learn:

– Learn to form a good foundation for phonics with small children using rhymes and rhythm.

– How to teach children the skill of listening.

– Learning how to prepare the child for writing and learning to write.

– Learn how to teach reading phonetically.

– Learn how to teach the grammar of our language.

Maths

Maths

In this third workshop you will learn:

– How to present the Montessori materials to the children.

n

– Learn to teach how the decimal system works in a visual and physical way. 

n

– Learn the concept of zero.

n

– Teach the child to trace numbers using their fingers before a pencil is introduced.

n

– Students on the course will fully understand maths by the end and will be able to ensure their children don’t cry over long division and long multiplication.

In our final workshop weekend, Cultural, you will teach the child how to fall in love with the world.

– How to teach children about the world through big conversations that develop vocabulary.

– Learn about Ecology and our planet.

– How to explain about the evolution of our world.
n

– Learn about the big bang and the solar system.

– How to encourage and use the child’s innate capacity for picking up language by teaching them the names of things eg: the parts of a flower; pistil, stamen.
n

– Teach about other cultures and traditions.
n
