About the course
What will I learn?
This course will provide you with theoretical and practical understanding of the Montessori principles to assist you in supporting your children’s learning and development.
The theoretical learning includes Montessori theory of child development, learning environments and the role of teachers and assistants.
The practical learning covers exercises of practical life, sensorial education and the creative curriculum, including art, crafts, music and movement in learning.

What qualification will I receive?
Following completion of this course, you will gain a Montessori Partnership Level 2 Montessori Classroom Assistants Certificate.
The practical exam marks can be carried forward to further Montessori qualifications, either the Level 3 EYE Diploma or the SCQF Level 8 Diploma.
What can I do with this qualification?
This qualification enables you to work effectively in a Montessori early years setting, working with children aged two to six.
How long will it take?
The course requires 60 hours of teaching for certification, to be arranged by the course-coordinator at your Montessori setting.
How is it taught?
This course is taught through a mixture of direct learning and private study.
A typical course is structured with 200 hours of guided learning, consisting of:
- 60 hours of face-to-face teaching
- 130 hours of classroom practice
- 10 hours of observation
- 150 hours of private study
Who can apply?
This course is open to students aged 18 years or over.
Applicants should be educated to GCSE Level/Level 2 standard or equivalent.
Applications from mature people with work experience are encouraged.
Applications from those with qualifications in unrelated fields will also welcomed.
Applicants should have no formal Montessori qualifications.
